Day 3: State Wrestling

The third and final day of covering state wrestling. I covered the tournament for 6 different newspapers. It was a lot of work, but fun. Nothing like an adreline rush of 5 papers needing photos on deadline! I still shot like crap. I think I was tryinmg to do too much at once and my photos suffered because of it.....but, I got everyone the photos they needed, met all deadlines and everyone was happy.

This is from the 189 match. The kid in the middle blew out his knee in the semi finals and could barely wrestle in the finals. He tapped out 3 different times before they called the match for injury default. Afterwards he could not even stand up to get off the mat. The winner, right, helped him up in a true showing of sportsmanship.

Since none of the people I was shooting tonight showed any kind of emotion, I kind of like the above photo, something different from the action which all looks the same after 3 days.

Now I am off to Mexico for the rest of the month! Yeah! See you in March!

E.L.F

Shot this portrait today to go with a story about the Earth Liberation Front, an eco terrorism group. This guy was the former unofficial spokesman. Three members were recently arrested in connection with numerous different arson's, etc. He has also been called to testify in front of the Grand Jury.

Day 1: State Wrestling

Day 1 of the 3 day Oregon State Wrestling Tournament. I'm covering it for numerous newspapers around the state. Today was the craziest day with 10 mats going at once, running around like crazy to try and shoot everyone I needed to get.

Ouch. Blood always makes a wrestling photo better right?

I'll update more from the Semi's and Finals in the next couple days.

Million Dollar House Man

This is a portrait I shot for the Portland Business Journal yesterday. It is a home builder who builds 5 million dollar houses. This is his personal home and it was the most amazing place I have ever seen. So amazing I can't even describe it in words, and my photos sure as heck do not do any justice....but nevertheless, here it is, this was shot on the 3rd floor, looking onto the second floor....we took an elevator up, yes, an elevator in the house.

Adam Morrison

Last night I shot #5 Gonzaga vs Portland. It was no contest, the Zags killed them. Here is a shot of an Adam Morrison dunk in the first half. He is good. Really good. It's fun to watch him play. He should shave off that porn star moustache he's got going, but hey, maybe that works for him in Spokane. Plus, he's about to have millions and millions of dollars so, more power to him I guess.

Swimming

This post is live from Hood River, OR where I am covering a prep swim meet for the Bend Bulletin. I'm bored waiting between all the crummy consolation matches and breaks, so I thought I'd write a blog and show a cool photo I shot about 30 minutes ago. This is the winner of the 100 yard butterfly. As soon as I'm done here, its back to Portland for some wrestling...stay tuned.

Dogs and Cats

My mom sent me this this morning. Having a dog and 2 cats, this is very funny to me, so true too:

Dear Dogs and Cats,

The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food.
The other dishes are mine and contain my food.
Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack.
Beating me to the bottom is not the object.
Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king-sized bed. I am very sorry about this.
Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort.
Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep.
It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible.
I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom.
If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob, or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open.
I must exit through the same door I entered. I have been using the bathroom for years--canine or feline attendance is not mandatory.

The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough!

To pacify you my dear pets, I have posted the following message on our front door:

Rules for Non-Pet Owners Who Visit and Like to Complain About Our Pets:

1. They live here. You don't.

2. If you don't want hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.
(That's why they call it "fur"niture .)

3. I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.

4. To you, it's an animal. To me, he/she is an adopted son/daughter who is short, hairy, walks on all fours, and does not speak clearly.

Remember: Dogs and cats are better than kids because they:

eat less
don't ask for money all the time
are easier to train
usually some when called,
never dive your car
don't hang out with drug-using friends
don't smoke or drink
don't worry about having to buy the latest fashions
don't wear your clothes
don't need a gazillion dollars for college
and if they get pregnant, you can sell their children.

Just missed....

This is by far my favorite photo from Saturday, so many emotions and so much action all wrapped up into one bouquet toss. I'll be entering this image in a contest or two.

Cover from Saturday

I like how this turned out.
